RESIM2020  concluded the programme on Friday 5th June, after a great day of presentations, we started with CDRSP Vice-Director Artur Mateus on the Print Big project at CDRSP with imaginative plans for the Print Big Laboratory which will sit alongside the Training Factory, we listened to variety of very interesting talks related to Technology, with the only disappointment being  Sir Fayomi from Nigeria who was to talk about biodegradable wastes, after our virtual lunch we were treated to the delights of Stimuli Optimisation in Tissue Engineering which offers real hope in removing one of the blockages in the development of tissue engineering in becoming a therapy, the afternoon then was consumed in a variety of great talks on various health projects and culminated in the lecture from CDRSP Director Professor Nuno Alves on the developments in the In-situ Biomass projection. 

Professor Geoffrey Mitchell thanked the outstanding work of the recently formed CDRSP@VIRTUAL_SPACE team who had done so much in such a short time to provide the infrastructure for the VIRTUAL  RESIM2020 Conference and Tomas Archer and Renato Batista who had been with the conference team since May 2018.


Professor Paula Pascoal Faria president of the international jury for the poster awards spoke of the high quality of all of the poster and announced 2 prize winners  Hugo Marques  “Tire compounds based on thermoplastic matrix for injection moulding” and Barbara Lamolinara  “Pineapple Leaf Fibres – A renewable Materials Source for Composites”.  Both will receive a registration for RESIM2022 or for ICDDMAP2021.  Professor Nuno Alves, Director of CDRSP, thanked everyone involved with this virtual conference for making it such as success. He looked forward to meeting all the delegates again at RESIM2022. The feedback from all the delegates was very positive and they had found the virtual nature of the conference very good and an interesting experience. 

Professor Rui Pedrosa President of Polytechnic of Leiria opens the Virtual International Conference on Advanced Research in Sustainable and Intelligent Materials.

Highlights of Day 1


We started with a keynote lecture on Factories of the Future from CDRSP Portugal and then moved to Egypt with a presentation on tool wear, then to the UK for Sustainable Airline Catering m back to Portugal for roadside safety equipment and then to Italy for sustainable additive manufacturing

After an international coffee break we moved to the Uk for Transitting to sustainable manufacturing,  and then to Porto Portugal for Decision  Support System and finally to Brazil to learn about reducing waste in an industrial environment.

After lunch we started with a keynote lecture from ESTOAI in France and then traveled to Wales, back to Portugal and finally to the UK  for a presentation on organic material growth.

 Delegates had an opportunity to visit the Virtual Poster room or take a virtual tour of CDRSP.

Press Release RESIM2020

The Organising Committee is pleased to announce that all of the structure and organisation is in place for RESIM2020.

Registered participants will shortly be receiving instructions for joining the RESIM2020 Virtual Conference on 4 and 5 June 2020.

A key part of this conference is the Poster Session which will be held in the RESIM Virtual Poster Room again full details will be sent to all delegates.

We ask poster authors to send a pdf version of their poster  to resim@ipleiria.pt  so that we can mount you poster in the Virtual Poster Room. Please send the copy of your poster by Wednesday 27th May 2020.

We are pleased to announce that the “Best Poster” as evaluated by our International Judges will receive a certificate to record their achievement and a free registration to either RESIM2022 or ICDDMAP2021 the latter will be held in Marinha Grande in Portugal on 18-22 May 2022. The location and format of RESIM2022 will be announced later this year. There is no cash equivalent to this award and it is not transferable.

The Criteria for the Best Poster Award

  • Clarity of presentation both scientific and typographically
  • Merit of the Science
  • Quality of the Interaction with delegates
